Twenty Went Out

Nineteen fire shelter bags were deployed. The inferno didn't care as the flames of hell danced in the wind and joined hands to close off any escape. The men had won last weeks battle but had no chance in this war.

Their stories are coming out slowly and tell of widows and children left to grieve. My kid's childhood playmates now immortalized in tragedy and sorrow. All of them were so young; every one of them was a real person with tales that will forever be untold.

Twenty went out, only one returned to his post. We share in the burning pain that is inextinguishable, even with nineteen new firefighters in heaven and especially for a lone fireman left here on earth.
