Atlantic City, N.J. To Brooklyn, N.Y.

Mother — Yes, I have been "taking the air" every day, as promised, except last Tuesday when it was so bitter cold — you know Doctor said I had to be careful of my chest. In the morning I walk up to the end of the Boardwalk and back for my "constitutional." Some people are kind enough to say hello when we pass. Afternoons I sit on the Hotel porch and watch the waves breaking on the shore. They're relentless. I'm not sleeping, but I'm getting by. Don't worry about me, it's just my heart going off sometimes, and all my teeth ache, ache.
