Jeff watches a log shift in the campfire. Tiny embers spring free and float like glowing fairies through the night sky, Earth transformed into Air. He wonders if the deeply rooted tree had ever yearned for such freedom. If it ever wished it could fly, it was finally getting the chance.
Jeff's roots too are buried deep; the house with the underwater mortgage, the regret of repairing planes instead of flying them, the bankrupting illness that took his wife. He knows there is freedom, transmutation, waiting for him in that fire. All he needs is the courage to jump in.
