Like Little Adults

"Stop running," the mother yells, but she doesn't tell her son that if he doesn't stop running he would hurt himself.

She knows he'll hit his head on the corner of the table, she knows no matter what she says that she'll be spending the first afternoon of the summer holidays waiting in A&E for a nurse to glue her son's head back together.

Sometimes you've just got to let children learn the hard way, the way we're supposed to. She picks up her magazine and pretends to read the article about unobtainable beach bodies, waiting for the thud.
