Preparing To Laugh

Scrape off all the patches padding your broken down heart, even the old ones from when you were little and mother called you fat whore in those tight jeans and father said you weren't his daughter for the purposes of child support. You'll be surprised at how much you've healed under the glue and lead and upholstery. Gently buff the jagged edges so that you won't cut your insides when the joy finally loosens. At first you might feel timid, fearing that everything will collapse without the familiar dressing. So, place your right hand at your chest and rub, and with your left hand, pat your head.
